Don’t let the name throw you off. Chicago’s Girl and The Goat restaurant is about as far from a barnyard as you can get and still be in the Midwest. We entered to an open and airy décor that mixes industrial chic with aged barnboard. It somehow works, instantly setting us at ease.
Although we were only at the Girl & The Goat to meet for drinks, a quick review of the menu showed it to be inventive and ambitious. The bucatini (braised pork shoulder) and wood-fired lamb ribs were tempting. And, yes, there were several goat-based items available, including goat liver mousse, goat carpaccio, goat empanadas, and confit goat belly. Maybe next time.
The cocktail menu was extensive, as was wine selection. The only drawback was a limited beer menu.
Our server knew we were only staying for a short time, but still made us feel welcome and comfortable. So much so that I will almost certainly schedule a return visit the next time I am in the Windy City.
