Ogunquit Beach Lobster House – Ogunquit, ME

Did you know that lobster is the official state crustacean of the State of Maine? That’s a pretty heavy title for a shellfish to carry. But if you go to the source, in this case the Ogunquit Beach Lobster House, you’ll soon discover why the state has bestowed such an honor.

If you like lobster, there is no place on earth better to be than Ogunquit, Maine. Take the bridge from town out to the beach and you can’t miss the Ogunquit Beach Lobster House. It’s the place where all the people are gathered, especially the locals, who know a good lobster when they taste it.

There is nothing fancy here, just great lobster and seafood right from the source. The atmosphere is fun and friendly, if a bit frantic at feeding time. But it is all part of the experience of seaside Maine at the height of vacation season.

My wife and I ventured across the bridge and were well-rewarded with beautiful views of the broad, sandy beach and a delicious and fresh meal. Jan devoured the homemade clam chowder, which was thick and creamy and chock full of clams. I took the lazy route, choosing a lobster roll which was overflowing with chunks of sweet lobster on a fresh baked roll, with locally grown cole slaw that was crisp and tasty.

We chose to eat at a table in the dining room, but plenty of people were lined up at the take-out window, ready to enjoy their meal out on the sand. A perfect summer vacation tableau.

If you are going to seek out the best “lobstah,” Maine is the place to go. And the Ogunquit Beach Lobster House is the top spot. Just make sure you bring extra napkins to the table.
